Where is Sinop?

Turkey is located between Western Asia (the Anatolian peninsula) and South-eastern Europe (the Balkans). Two straits separate these two continents: the Dardanelles and the Bosporus. This geography puts Turkey at the meeting point of three important regions: the Balkans, the Caucasus and the Middle East.

Turkey is surrounded by the Black Sea to the north, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. There is an inner sea, the Marmara, on the north western part of the country.

Sinop is a city with a population of 39.239 on İnce Burun (İnceburun, Cape Ince), by its Cape Sinop (Sinop Burnu, Boztepe Cape, Boztepe Burnu) which is situated on the most northern edge of the Turkish side of the Black Sea coast.

Having a total land area of 438.58 km2, Sinop is composed of the following districts: Boyabat, Ayancık, Gerze, Durağan, Türkeli, Erfelek, Dikmen, Saraydüzü.
